Stavanger is a lighthouse demonstrator in the New European Bauhaus movement. At Nordic Edge, we help turn the vision of the New European Bauhaus into action – through local innovation, European collaboration, and real-world testing.
The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is a creative and interdisciplinary EU initiative that connects the European Green Deal to our living spaces and experiences. NEB aims to build a bridge between art, culture and education with science and technology. The project is a driving force for new ideas, prototypes and products, as research and innovation are main components of NEB's design, delivery and communication.
The New European Bauhaus Stavanger (NEB-STAR) project embodies the European Union's vision of creating sustainable, inclusive, and aesthetically pleasing living environments. As one of six lighthouse demonstrators funded by the EU, NEB-STAR aims to address pressing challenges related to climate, environment, and health by integrating the principles of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) into urban development.
The goal of the project is to show how territorial transformation plans can embrace the principles and values of the NEB. The project will thus seek to showcase how Stavanger, in cooperation with twinning cities Prague (Czech Republic) and Utrecht (the Netherlands) can provide insightful experimentation, demonstration and guidance on NEB principles in urban transitions.
Nordic Edge's Role in NEB-STAR

- Content Development: Creating compelling narratives and solution booklets that highlight project insights and best practices, aimed at inspiring and guiding other urban areas.
- Financial and Partnership Models: Contributing to the development of new financial- and partnership models for the project's test areas, ensuring sustainable and scalable solutions.
- Event Organization: Hosting events such as the Nordic Edge Expo and the NEB-STAR festival to present NEB-STAR results and foster collaboration with NEB and Mission communities.
- Integration into Nordic Roadmaps: Embedding project learnings into Nordic roadmaps for smart and sustainable cities, aligning NEB-STAR outcomes with broader regional strategies.
