How can Norwegian cities move from climate goals to concrete action? This is the topic of the "Byene mot null" conference, which will bring together Norwegian stakeholders working on climate neutrality in Trondheim on October 19. Nordic Edge is a co-organizer through its role as the City Expert Support Facility in NetZeroCities.
The conference, organized by DOGA, brings together representatives from Oslo, Trondheim, and Stavanger, among others, as well as stakeholders from research, business, the public sector, and finance. The goal is to share experiences and discuss how cities can accelerate their efforts toward climate transition.
Nordic Edge is a co-organizer in its capacity as the City Expert Support Facility (CESF) within NetZeroCities. NetZeroCities is the EU’s initiative for European cities that have committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2030.
Through the CESF, cities gain access to expertise and support, while the initiative also facilitates collaboration and knowledge sharing among cities. Nordic Edge helps connect Norwegian cities to relevant resources, experiences, and networks within NetZeroCities.
In Norway, Oslo, Stavanger, and Trondheim are participating in the EU’s mission for climate-neutral and smart cities. The experiences of these cities are therefore also relevant to the broader European effort to find new ways to implement the climate transition.
“We need arenas where cities can share experiences of what works, the barriers they face, and how different stakeholders can contribute. ‘Byene mot null’ provides space for exactly this kind of knowledge and experience sharing,” says Bjarne Uldal from Nordic Edge.
The program addresses several of the challenges cities face in the climate transition, including zero-emission construction sites, circular cities, nature-based solutions, and mobility.
Nordic Edge is contributing to the program, among other things, with a session on mobility solutions in the climate transition. Later in the day, the session “Cities Create Markets” is also on the program, focusing on how municipalities can use their role to create demand for new solutions and contribute to the development of green markets.
For Nordic Edge, the conference is part of its efforts to strengthen collaboration and knowledge sharing among Norwegian cities, and to link Norway’s climate efforts more closely to the European NetZeroCities network.
“Byene mot null” will be held at Scandic Lerkendal in Trondheim on October 19, 2026, and can also be followed online.
