We are leveraging European resources to scale up Norwegian innovation

The EU provides the funding. Norwegian companies reap the benefits. Through EDIH Oceanopolis and its partner Nordic Edge, small and medium-sized enterprises can assess their digital readiness, test AI for themselves—and leave with a plan.

Most SMEs know that AI and data are affecting them, and quickly. Fewer know where to start. Consultants are expensive, vendors sell their own systems, and making the wrong investment can cost a small business dearly.

This is the problem the EU has built the EDIH scheme to solve. European Digital Innovation Hubs is a network of centers of expertise in all EU countries and associated countries such as Norway. Each hub does the same thing: helps ordinary businesses learn, test, and adopt technologies such as AI, data, and robotics.

Find out where you stand in two short sessions

The gateway to the EDIH scheme is the DMA, which stands for Digital Maturity Assessment. To get you started, Nordic Edge is hosting webinars featuring DMA sprints. Our DMA sprints consist of two 45-minute digital sessions, plus up to six hours of individual consulting. Over the spring, companies in the blue economy, construction, and agriculture have completed them.

At the core is the Digital Maturity Analysis (DMA)—the EU’s own assessment tool. The results are immediate:

    • You receive a score for your company’s digital maturity the same day.
    • You see how you stack up against your own industry in Norway and the EU.
    • You get a concrete foundation for a digital strategy and know what the next step is.

Afterward, the one-on-one consulting sessions are used to address your company’s actual challenges. The analysis also opens the door to free and discounted services in the rest of the portfolio: roadmaps, mentoring, and the opportunity to test technology before investing.

– Many companies believe that digitalization starts with a major investment. It starts with knowing where you stand. You’ll get the answer here, in a short time, and the benchmark against Europe surprises many, says Kjøpstad Sørgård.

Europe’s digitalization engine, with a Norwegian plug

EDIH Oceanopolis is Norway’s gateway to the network, with Nordic Edge as a partner. The EU and Innovation Norway help fund the services. The company pays only with its time.

– The tools were developed in Europe and are used by tens of thousands of companies. Our job is to make them available to companies in Norway, says Lisbeth Kjøpstad Sørgård, project manager for EDIH Oceanopolis at Nordic Edge.

Workshop edih expo3

From idea to working AI solution—in one morning

What does that mean in practice? During the Nordic Edge Expo in May, participants in the “AI and Agentic Development” workshop saw the answer with their own eyes.

Managers and professionals (most of whom had never written a single line of code) brought a specific challenge from their own companies. With visual AI development tools and experts by their side, several participants built a working solution to the challenge. Before lunch.

That’s the impact in a nutshell: AI stops being something abstract that you “should look into” and becomes something you’ve put to use yourself with a tangible result. The participants got to keep their solution afterward, and took home something even more important: the experience that this is possible.

That is why the services are co-funded

EDIH Oceanopolis is co-funded by the EU through the Digital Europe program (Grant Agreement 101083778) and by Innovation Norway on behalf of the Ministry of Digitalization and Public Administration.

Europe is investing in the digital success of its businesses. Norwegian companies are invited to join.
