How to Enter – A Week in Barcelona

Written by Andreas Amdal Østrem | Oct 1, 2025 11:02:08 AM
What does membership in Nordic Edge mean in practice? This autumn, it means arriving in Barcelona with pre-arranged meetings, local insights, and a network that opens doors.

Nordic Edge is taking the next step in adapting member offerings with the rollout of the updated How to Enter product. Built on the needs of our members, the service is designed to open doors to new markets, capital, and strategic partners — supporting the growth of Nordic companies.

– As always, our focus is on the market side: creating purposeful meeting places, framing dialogue around relevant challenges, and bringing the right people together. The goal is clear — supporting our members as they work to position themselves to reach markets, capital and partners at the right time,” says Project Manager and Business Developer Torill S. Hoel.

A Nordic platform for global reach

As Norway’s national smart city cluster evolving into a Nordic platform, we now convene members and partners across borders. For Barcelona, Invest in Skåne and Stockholm Business Region are the first to join forces with Nordic Edge. Together, we showcase Nordic innovation on the global stage and create meeting places where companies connect with qualified customers, cities, and partners.

From conversation to concrete opportunities

e know that access to new markets and growth capital takes time, and that trust starts with conversations. That is why all Nordic Edge activities are structured to move from first meetings to concrete next steps. For that join us, Barcelona is not just another conference trip. It is a curated pathway to business opportunities, designed to turn conversations into concrete next steps.

The Barcelona program is built around three main thematic blocks:

  • Meet the Cities – Municipal representatives present real challenges and upcoming initiatives. Companies share deployments and lessons learned, mapping the path from strategy to pilot.

  • Nordic Business Mixer – Short, structured dialogues with corporates and procurement stakeholders in energy, mobility, logistics, and circular solutions. Focused on fit assessment and pathways to pilots or framework agreements.

  • Nordic Investor Mixer – Direct conversations with investors and corporates focused on scaling. Discussions emphasize traction, unit economics, and the capital or partnerships needed for international growth.

By progressing through these building blocks in the same week and setting, members compress the journey from introductory chat to qualified opportunity.

Why Barcelona?

The Smart City Expo World Congress is the world’s leading event for smart and sustainable cities, bringing together decision-makers, innovators, and city leaders from across the globe. By co-locating How to Enter activities here, delegation participants gain the best of both worlds: the chance encounters that only a global arena like this can offer, alongside prepared, high-quality meetings facilitated by Nordic Edge and partners.

What to expect

Through our strong partnership with Innovation Norway, Spain, we are hosting a dedicated Meet the Cities session. Here, small and medium-sized Spanish cities will present their concrete challenges on stage, while Nordic companies showcase relevant solutions. To broaden the impact, we are also inviting other European cities and municipalities, ensuring that Nordic innovation is highlighted, knowledge is shared, and networks are expanded across borders.

We are also arranging a Nordic Business Mixer, built around meetings with Spanish and international corporates such as Acciona, Ferrovial, and Talgo. Partners for this are Laia Ventures and Let’s Innovate.

The program is delivered with partners including Invest in Skåne, Stockholm Business Region, and a wide range of international collaborators — from Innovation Norway, Spain and the Norwegian Embassy, Spain to Laia Ventures and Let’s Innovate, who bring strong Spanish and global networks. Together, we ensure that every meeting has a purpose and every participant meets relevant counterparts.

More opportunities with Nordic Edge!

For those not joining this time, the message is clear: don’t miss the next opportunity. The How to Enter service will continue to roll out in other markets over the years to come — and Nordic Edge members and partners are always the first to benefit.
