Announcing the winners of the challenge competition Smart and sustainable cities and communities – and launching next round

A year ago, DOGA, Nordic Edge and Innovation Norway launched a challenge competition in order to stimulate private-public collaboration and the development of innovative solutions to complex challenges. In this session, Nikolai Astrup, Minister of Local Government and Modernisation, will announce the final winners. The municipalities of Utsira and Krødsherad will share their experiences from the process. And finally, a new competition will be launched – inviting municipalities of all sizes to take part.

Nikolai Astrup was appointed Minister of Local Government and Modernization in January 2020, after having been Minister of Digitization and before that Minister of Development. He is a member of the UN Secretary – General’s High Level Panel on Digital Cooperation. He has a master’s degree in European Politics and Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has been elected as a parliamentary representative, and has previously been the leader of the Oslo Conservative Party and editor-in-chief of the magazine Minerva.

Since 2012, Marte Eide Klovning has been Mayor of Utsira municipality for Utsira Common List (Utsira Fellesliste). She is a member of the County Council group of Rogaland Labour Party (Rogaland Arbeiderparti), and a member of the Norwegian Labour Party, (Det Norske Arbeiderparti). Her goal is that Utsira Municipality – the smallest municipality of Norway – will manage to reverse a negative population development, create sustainable jobs and be a place everyone wants to visit.

Mayor Knut Martin Glesne is Mayor of Krødsherad Municipality in Norway. He has a University degree of Nature Management from NMBU. He has been a farmer all his life, but has also had an active career as SEO for The Norwegian Farmers organization 1976-2000. From 2000 to the day he was elected as Mayor he was  Division Director at Gjensidige Forsikring 2000-2019. He is also Chairman of Viken Kommunerevisjon.

Tor Inge Hjemdal is Managing Director at DOGA, an innovation tool for both public and private sector. He is an architect with experience as project manager for large construction and city planning projects. He is a former department manager at the National Association of Norwegian Architects (NAL).
Tor Inge Hjemdal also has experience as an entrepreneur, and has been a lecturer nationally as well as internationally.
