In a recent initiative, 10 of our members successfully expanded their networks, formed potential new partnerships and unlocked business opportunities in Romania as a new European market for smart city technology.

Nordic Edge is a non-commercial and sector-neutral innovation cluster and we play a vital role in connecting cities and municipalities with the companies in our member base. We recently facilitated an impactful session in the EEA Grants project NORO Green Cities around the challenges the Romanian delegation described for us, and then connected the potential solutions with providers from our extensive pool of members during their visit to Stavanger.

This session is an example of how Nordic Edge, with the position we have, are able to facilitate the first important steps in creating cross-border collaboration and paving the way for sustainable, technology-driven urban development.

Showcasing Scalable and Sustainable Solutions

Nordic Edge members demonstrated their solutions by describing the problem they address, the solution they provide and the impact it creates. In that way they were able to raise awareness on how different technologies can be implemented and address their challenges. From smart energy management to digital infrastructure and sustainable mobility, these solutions presented real, implementable pathways for cities looking to modernize and improve efficiency.

Several companies are now in discussions with Romanian municipalities to pilot and scale their technologies, demonstrating the practical value of cross-border collaboration.

Unlocking Potential in New European Markets

There is a growing interest in sustainable urban development across Central and Eastern Europe, creating a valuable opportunity for Nordic companies specializing in smart city solutions. Through different matchmaking initiatives, Nordic Edge leverages our position to share knowledge and help our members build network and gain insights into regional needs, regulatory landscapes and potential business and investment opportunities. These kind of sessions also creates new partnerships that are expected to lead to long-term collaborations.

Expanding the Network and Strengthening Collaboration

Beyond immediate business opportunities, these international matchmaking efforts have significantly expanded the professional networks of Nordic Edge members. Building relationships with city officials, industry leaders, and fellow innovators across Europe has reinforced the cluster’s role as a key facilitator of sustainable urban transformation.

By participating in cross-border initiatives like this, Nordic Edge members not only gain market access but also contribute to a larger vision of sustainable and smart urban development. The success of this initiative demonstrates the value of collaboration in tackling urban challenges and highlights how innovation clusters can play a crucial role in scaling solutions for a greener, more connected future.

As Nordic Edge continues to strengthen its international partnerships, its members stand to benefit from increased visibility, new market opportunities, and stronger global networks.
